HIDDEN GEMS

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Coming in a close second to my makeup dependency is my need for a stock-pile of conditioners. I always have extra bottles stashed away in case of an emergency (What? I might get snowed-in during these harsh Chicago winters!). Sunsilk has products for every hair type you can imagine and also offers ethnic lines in select locations.

My favorite is the Hydra TLC line. It keeps hair soft, silky and the fragrance is great too. Sunsilk also releases formulas for winter and summer care. I did have the pleasure of trying their hairspray this past winter (loved it), but there is no word on when the styling line will be released here in the states.

Sunsilk shampoos and conditioners retail for $4 or less at most stores.
For a limited time, Target has duo packs of shampoos or conditioners for $2.99.

Oh Glow Up!

Smashbox Cosmetics has long been a favorite of makeup artists and consumers alike. In case you didn’t know, I have a fetish for eyeshadows and Smashbox has some of the best! Their eyeshadows are a little costly, but a little goes a long way. I consider this money well spent since you’ll replace the product less often.

I love the fact that Smashbox offers great kits which combine some of their best products, to make for an easy beauty regimen. Smashbox’s Platinum Surge Kit is a must-have for achieving that summer glow. The kit includes 2 lip glosses, an eyeshadow quad and a bronzer, all tucked into a metallic bag.

The Platinum Surge Kit is currently $39 ($110 value) and Smashbox is offering free shipping! Also, if you order online Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9am-2pm PST, a free gift is included!

Flawless Eyes

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

It seems that most cosmetic companies are now offering their version of mineral or loose powder eyeshadows. So many to choose from, but for the makeup novice, choosing the right colors can be a problem.

E.L.F. has taken the guesswork out of creating stand-out eyes. They recently introduced 3 mineral eyeshadow kits to create 3 different sultry looks. These kits contain 3 coordinating shadows, eyeliner and 2 brushes.

E.L.F. mineral eyeshadows are beautiful when applied dry or foiled (wet) and have great staying power.

These kits are a real steal at $12 each. Check out www.eyeslipsface.com

Makeup Masala readers can use code “Radio” to take 1/2 off! $6 for all this!

IT’S TIME FOR THE COMEDY HOUR!

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Since I’m running a mini-giveaway for all the prom girls out there, I thought I’d share my prom pic from the 90′s. Yes, prom existed back in the old days!

My makeup look was probably Covergirl or Wet ‘n Wild back then.

Ok now that we’ve all had a good laugh, let’s get back to business! The first reader who sends in their prom look (from this decade please!) will win a NIC’S STICKS by OPI in “I’m Outta Here”.

I know you’re still laughing, please stop…please.

Sexy Scents

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Victoria’s Secret was the first to bring us into the mall bath-line craze. They continue to this day to keep us pampered with the sexy scents they are known for. Updated packaging and occasionally-added new fragrances keep them at the top of the game.

The Secret Garden line ranges from the fruity to the flowery and a few other scents in between. Top sellers through the years include: Pear Glace, Amber Romance, and Strawberries and Champagne. I do wish they would bring back the Enchanted Apple. I’ve yet to find anything that compares.

Every product in each fragrance of this line stands up well on its own, but the scents last even longer by layering.

For a limited time the Secret Garden line is on sale 4/$19.99 or 7/$29.99.
