HIDDEN GEMS

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Ah, memories of high school. Rave hairspray, Bonne Belle gel blush and of course, Wet ‘n Wild makeup. These products were all it took to make me feel like hot stuff back in the day (it wasn’t THAT long ago, thank you). Wet ‘n Wild continues to provide great products which cater to any beauty budget.

Wet ‘n Wild Mega Eyes are an affordable addition to any makeup collection. These shadows hold up remarkably well throughout the day and all colors are extremely vibrant. An added plus is a slide-out mirror on the bottom of the case. Mega Eyes come in 6 different color combos and seasonal trios are occasionally released. So, if you’re on a self-imposed weekly allowance or just a cheapy like me, Wet ‘n Wild is a must-have.

Wet ‘n Wild Mega Eyes retail for about $3 at most stores.

THE SAME 5 QUESTIONS

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Anyone who loves mineral eyeshadows as much as I do is definitely someone I want to know! I have yet to find a better blogger on the subject than Ms. Christiana Divine. This girl knows her stuff and she knows how to show it! Christiana covers the mineral world (and more) thoroughly on her site, Memoirs of a Shopping Addict. Be sure to take some time to click through her links; you’ll become a groupie like me, I promise! Get to know a little about Christiana, one of my favorite beauty bloggers…

MM: Your purse is stolen. What beauty item will you replace first?

CHRISTIANA: Truth be told, I don’t carry many beauty products with me, just my lipbalm, a mirror and maybe some lipgloss and/or lipstick. If anything it’d be my Rosebud Strawberry Lip Salve. It’s my HG lip balm, hands down. I have super dry lips and that stuff works wonders for me.

MM: What high-end beauty product are you saving your pennies for?

CHRISTIANA: I don’t really buy from high-end beauty brands. I always say, “It’s not about what brand you’re rockin’, it’s all about how you rock it.” The beauty item that I spend the most money on is my mineral foundation. I will splurge on a mineral foundation if it works really good. Other than that, It’s not the price of an item that makes me broke, it’s the quantity of items that I buy. LOL.

MM: What one hair product can you not live without?

CHRISTIANA: I don’t really use any hair products in my hair and if I do, I’m not picky about it. I’ll use whatever is laying around my bathroom. But the one thing that I CAN’T do is wash my hair WITHOUT conditioner. I don’t know how anyone can do that. If I don’t use conditioner, my hair is a frizzy/tangled mess.

MM: What color polish is on your toes right now?

CHRISTIANA: I forget the brand and the name, but it’s a deep plum shade. I don’t really paint my finger nails, but I have to do my toe nails. That’s a MUST, nasty feet is a just a no-no.

MM: What was your inspiration to blog?

CHRISTIANA: Well, I’ve always blogged because I’ve always had a passion for writing. I first started out blogging on xanga with my poetry and personal blurbs. After a while I started filling my xanga with beauty blog posts so one day I figured why not just start a blog dedicated solely to beauty. That’s basically how I ended up with my beauty blog, “Memoirs of a Shopping Addict.”

Thank you Christiana!

Line ‘Em Up!

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Any fan of mineral eyeshadows will tell you the finishing touch is a great eyeliner. I really have tried hard to stray from this one, but somehow I end up with it on everyday. Avon’s Glimmersticks produce a defined line that lasts and lasts. This liner glides like silk across the lid and never tugs. My fav is the Blackest Black because it produces a dark, inky-looking line.

Glimmersticks are self-sharpening, so there is no product waste like with wood pencils. These liners last well through humidity, but applied over eyeshadow or a powder base is all that’s needed to make them last even longer.

Glimmersticks are now on sale at Avon for $2.99. Grab a couple for home and purse!

Although I love my drugstore haircare lines, there are times when my hair needs a bit more TLC. Jason Natural Jojoba conditioner gives my hair the pampering it needs. This conditioner does double duty by adding moisture to the hair and soothing the scalp. For those of us who abuse our hair with chemicals, blow-drying and curling, this conditioner performs miracles.

Jason Natural combines vitamins and minerals with 22 Keratin Amino Acids, 3 Proteins and Planthenol-3 to make this a natural choice for normal to dry hair. For extra-dry or coarse hair, this conditioner also works great as a leave-in.

Vitacost carries this conditioner for $3.99. All orders, regardless of size are shipped for $4.99 and sent within 24hrs.

One look in my purse will give you an idea of how much I love hand creams. I carry no less than 4 different ones at a time. Is there some sort of support group for this? I think the obsession started when I read an article that hands were a dead giveaway to a person’s age.

Yves Rocher makes one of the best hand creams out there. This hand cream is made with Arnica, which is a plant known for its healing and soothing properties. The cream keeps hands moisturized, even through several hand washings. The scent is light and refreshing.

Arnica Daily Moisturizing Hand Cream is on sale for $2.75, which is a true bargain for a 2.5fl oz tube.

Smooth Moves

I love the idea of beauty products that multi-task. Our busy schedules don’t always allow for luxurious pampering. Ulta’s new 3-in-1 Smoothie line helps save time (and space) in the shower by combining 3 products in 1.

These smoothies come in 8 highly-scented flavors. The creamy, pearlized cleanser can be used as a shampoo, shower gel and bubble bath. I plan on trying it as shave gel too.

Right now these 24oz smoothies are buy 1 get 1 free! You can also print out coupon at Ulta.com for $3.50 off a $10 purchase.

HIDDEN GEMS

I think I was the last person to jump on the Burt’s Bees bandwagon, but now I’m hooked. Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmers have become a staple in my makeup bag.

This tiny tube is filled with shimmery colors that compliment most skin tones. It tingles the lips when applied and color last all day with minimal touch-ups. For you nature girls, this shimmer is made with 100% natural ingredients such as Vitamin-E, sunflower and coconut oils.

You can find this “hidden gem” for $5 or less at most retailers.
