Helping is Beautiful

Monday, June 30th, 2008

I love a company who knows how to give back. Mary Kay is doing just that with their Pink Changing Lives program. This program supports Break the Cycle, which educates youths on ways to stop the ongoing cycle of domestic violence. Break the Cycle also offers programs to help youths with dating violence and harassment issues.

Mary Kay is partnering with Break the Cycle by donating 100% of its profits from the sale of their Apple Berry lipstick ($13). This beautiful, berry-red lipstick gives long-lasting coverage and its creamy texture pampers the lips. Let’s all help someone else see their beauty too.
Love Mary Kay? Makeup Masala is giving away 2 Apple Berry lipsticks. Leave a comment and tell us your favorite Mary Kay product. 2 winners will be chosen Thursday, 7-3.

HIDDEN GEMS

Many have deemed Wet ‘n Wild’s Fine Wink as an exact dupe to Stila’s Kitten. I’ve yet to make that comparison, but this little gem is worth its weight in gold. Fine Wink is a pink/gold that feels silky and smooth to the touch. Wonderful as a highlighter or use to accent the entire lid. This shadow is perfect for any skin tone and will accent any eye color.

Wet ‘n Wild’s Fine Wink can be found for $2.00 or less at most retailers.

DID YOU KNOW?

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Did you know conditioners and styling products won’t be as effective if there is build-up on your hair?

If it seems as of late, your favorite hair products aren’t working as well, build-up may be the problem. If hair is limp, oily, frizzy or uncooperative, a deep-cleaning is in order. This is a process that should be done once a week, preferably at the same time you deep-condition.

Look for shampoos that are clear (avoid creamy) and state “clarifying” or “deep cleaning” on the package. These are specially formulated to remove oils, gels, and hairspray from locks. Deep cleansing also benefits the scalp by unclogging pores to allow proper hair growth.

Top deep-cleansing shampoos:

~Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo
~Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo
~Herbal Essences Degunkify Tingling Deep Cleaning Shampoo

Add-ins for an extra boost of cleansing:

~2 tablespoons of baking soda mixed with a handful of conditioner.
~1/2 tablespoon lemon juice added to shampoo (not advised for just-colored hair).

A Taste of Honey

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

I decided to take a break from my norm (think Rainbow Bright) and try some of the more neutral shadows I’ve seen lately. Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Duo in Honey Nut really impressed me! The base shade is a very matte, peachy color. The accent color is rusty-brown with a subtle sparkle to it. Although the colors are neutral, it still made for a very dramatic effect.

I wore this duo (applied wet) with no base underneath to get an idea of the true wear. After a 10 hour day in humid weather, I had absolutely no creasing. NONE! The color stayed true with very minimal fading. I believe the the base portion of the duo plays a big part in the longevity, so I plan to use under other shadows I own. The duos are available in 7 other equally eye-popping shades.
Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Duo in Honey Nut is currently on sale for $6.49 at Ulta and $6.99 at Target.

Yves Rocher’s new Inositol Végétal Optimizing Moisturizer Day 1st Lines (retails for $20) was made for those discovering the first signs of aging. This cream, formulated for daytime use, is light and non-oily on the skin. It provides a perfect matte base prior to makeup application.

Inositol Végétal is derived from Green Rice, which allows skin to self-repair while maintaining moisture. The eco-friendly packaging is refillable at a lower price of $16.50.

Yves Rocher’s testings have proven the following results:

After Day 1= skin is rehydrated, more velvety to the touch.
After Day 8= skin is more luminous, has improved tone.
After Day 15= first lines are smoothed away, radiance is renewed.

Remember, anti-aging regimens should start before the first signs of aging appear!

THE SAME 5 QUESTIONS

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

One thing that will keep me coming back to a site is great content. Keep me busy and I’m one happy chica! Yummy 411 has so many great posts, links and tutorials, I still haven’t made my way through all of them! The main feature that keeps me coming back, is Ms. Yummy’s knowledge of eyeshadow application. She has gorgeous eyes and knows how to play them up with beautiful color combinations. Get to know more about Yummy 411, one of my favorite beauty bloggers…

MM: Your purse is stolen. What beauty item will you replace first?

YUMMY 411: Loreal Voluminous mascara in Carbon Black… everything else, I have 10 of it some where else… purse, in a traincase or something. I only have one back up of voluminous left.

MM: What high-end beauty product are you saving your pennies for?

YUMMY 411: Some of the pricier foundations… Chanel, Dior, YSL, etc.

MM: What one hair product can you not live without?

YUMMY 411: A head band. My locs go through transitions and a headband, or nice scarf to tie around it saves the day!

MM: What color polish is on your toes right now?

YUMMY 411: NYX Linen… 3 coats is proving to have some lasting power, though I don’t know what the top coat is.

MM: What was your inspiration to blog?

YUMMY 411: When my friends got tired of hearing of the latest MAC collection or about a mascara that I tried. One of them actually suggested that I blog about it. I thought it was a good idea that I could dump all of my thoughts some where. Then I realized people were reading and cared! LOL

Thank you Yummy 411!

HIDDEN GEMS

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Today’s Hidden Gem is brought to you by the following sponsor. Please adjust volume accordingly.

It was funny and you know it. My Hidden Gem pick of the week cracks me up every time I pick up the can. This is why:

See the similarities? Funny pic aside, this little can is a cult-classic to star stylists everywhere. Fans of this pomade include: Leonardo DiCaprio, Brian Setzer, Julianna Margulies, Coolio, George Clooney and Tyra Banks. This waxy pomade is perfect for creating piecey, undone looks. It also smooths edges and fly-aways when hair is blown straight. Apply to hair before using a curling iron and curls will stay smooth all day with great hold.

For less-than-coarse hair, remember to use a very small amount and build up to more as needed. Because this pomade is so thick (warm between fingers before applying) remember to use a clarifying shampoo to remove thoroughly.

Soul Glo, I mean, Murray’s Pomade, averages $3 at most retailers.
