HIDDEN GEMS (brought to you a day early!)

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Nivea is extending their skin care line to help us achieve healthier lips! Nivea Glossy Lip Care in Pink is ideal for all skin tones. This light-pink provides a shimmery tint and gives lips a high-gloss shine.

This gloss actually lasted through a meal, which is rare even with my more expensive glosses. It soothes lips with Shea Butter, Vitamin E, and Grape Seed Oil. Even when the gloss was gone, my lips felt soft and healthy.

Nivea Glossy Lip Care retails for $3.50 or less at most locations.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know you actually may be contributing to your chronic dry skin?

While many factors play a role in dry skin, (environment and health are two causes) there are ways to prevent the condition from getting worse.

~Avoid prolonged hot showers or baths: This can strip away natural oils which protect skin. Use lukewarm water and limit shower or bath time to a few minutes. Pat (do not rub) skin dry when toweling off.

~Laundry: Avoid fabric softeners of all forms since they contain fragrances which may irritate the skin. Use mild detergents such as Dreft or All Free and Clear.

~Choose mild, fragrance-free soaps: Try to avoid antibacterial soaps which are harsh to the skin. Choose low-lather soaps since high-lather varieties remove oils from the skin.

~Use the right moisturizer: If the lotion you use runs or drips when squeezed into hands, then it’s not thick enough for dry skin. Lubriderm Intense Skin Repair Lotion is the perfect, thick lotion for parched skin. It provides 24-hour moisturization, is fragrance-free, and is non-greasy to the touch. For best results, apply lotion to skin while still damp.

Makeup Masala is giving away this cream (3.3oz tube) to 3 lucky readers! Just leave a comment (you can just say “hi” if you want) and 3 random winners will be chosen Thursday 7-31.

She may have been evil, but she could rock some lashes!

Ah, those glamorous women from days gone by. Every day was dress-up day back then and the makeup was always high-glam. Rimmel is bringing back that old Hollywood feel with their new Glam’ Eyes mascara.

While I admit to being a die-hard Great Lash fan, I feel like a movie star when I grab this mascara from my makeup bag. The packaging alone will have you drooling with its fish-net stocking case and sexy pink accents. One coat noticeably lengthens lashes; two coats, let the seduction begin! This mascara is long-wearing with no clumping. So sorry, Great Lash..to the bottom of the makeup bag you go!

Rimmel Glam’ Eyes is currently on sale at Ulta, buy one get one free through 8-2.

Did you know the sap from aloe vera can be used to treat first-degree burns?

For minor burns break off a part of the leaf and apply the gel-like substance to the affected area. The sap will reduce inflammation and accelerate healing. The aloe vera plant has long been considered beneficial for its healing properties.

Here are more ways aloe vera can be used for optimal health and beauty:

~Apply gel directly to inflamed acne to reduce size and redness.

~Rub gel on sunburn to alleviate pain and prevent blistering.

~After shaving, apply gel to prevent razor bumps and heal minor cuts.

~To heal itchy bug bites, apply gel to area to speed healing.

~When choosing cosmetic or health products with aloe, consider the following guidelines (per Gardens Ablaze.com):

  • Sunburn treatments – 20% or more aloe content
  • Creams & Ointments – 20% or more aloe content
  • Juices – 95% or more aloe content
  • Beverages – 50% or more aloe content
  • Drinks – 10% or more aloe content
  • Capsules – 5-10% or more aloe content

This Little Piggie

Unless you’re a professional makeup artist with a full clientele, a full jar of MAC pigments will last you until you’re 80! A true product-junkie tires easily of her purchases, most of which end up tossed in drawers never to resurface again. That’s why I love the sample sizes provided by The Body Needs. These sizes are just-right-bites of your favorite MAC pigment colors.

The Body Needs provides authentic MAC pigments at a fraction of the size and cost. I have ordered many times and always receive my pigments in a matter of a few days. My order is always correct and products are packaged well against damage.

Take a peek at my order, received yesterday:

Pigments are packaged 1/4 teaspoon per 5 gram jar. At $1.59 each, you can sample over 30 different MAC pigments!
