Join the Movement!

It’s time to stop overspending on designer brands and T.J. Maxx and Marshalls want you to join the National Spending Intervention Movement!  Both T.J. Maxx and Marshalls offer the current season’s fashions at a fraction of the cost of higher-end stores and boutiques.

Lately, I’ve also found great deals on famous brand beauty and bath products.  My latest find was Carol’s Daughter Candy Paint Lip Gloss at Marshalls.  Normally $13.50, Marshalls carries them for $3.99!  Other sought-after brands include Jaqua Beauty, Joey of New York and Barielle, just to name a few.  T.J. Maxx and Marshalls makes it possible to look, smell and feel good, all while saving those valuable dollars!

Makeup Masala wants you to join the National Spending Intervention Movement too!  To get you started, I’m giving a $25 T.J. Maxx gift card to 1 lucky reader.  Leave a comment telling us how you’ve been saving money during these rough economic times.  Winner will be chosen Saturday, May 30th at 10:00pm CST.  Readers who have a T.J. Maxx in their area are invited to participate!

What haven’t we been doing is more like it. We cut out all “perks” such as Starbucks. We fix our lunch at home for work. We drink water with flavor packets (store brand) instead of soda. We shop with coupons and buy meat in bulk when on sale and freeze in smaller packages. No unnecessary “just out for a ride” trips. A lot more staying home and rewatching old DVDs. You got to do what you gotta do. Thanks!

We got rid of our Satellite TV subscription which was $60 a month. We bought one of the new digital antenna boxes with government discount coupon and get about 15 channels(FOR FREE) and will get more channels when it all goes digital on June 12th. We get our Movie Rentals from the library for free now, instead of paying to rent them. The Public Library has all the new release movies. I don’t buy paper plates, cups, forks any longer. My husband installed hooks in my laundry room. I now hang our towels, blankets, and blue jeans up to (almost) air dry before placing into the electric dryer. We unplug all appliances, electronics when not in use.
I don’t go shopping for entertainment any longer.

To save money, I’m actually using up the beauty products in my bathroom, trying to use up all the groceries I buy, eat out less often, drive less often, watch movies at home, make gifts when I can, and frequent the library (well, I have always done that). I want to save by wearing clothing I have, but I am in the transition period between pregnancy and my normal weight. I need to go shopping.

  • Ashley C says:

In order to cut back and save during these tough times I have begun organizing monthly get-togethers with my girl friends: We trade/share clothing, give each other manis and pedis, and keep each other updated about the recent steals and deals both online and in stores near our homes.
We’ve all saved a lot, and have also cut back on our spending by trading pieces from our wardrobe with one another.

Thanks for the entry! and Great Site!!,
    Ashley

I’ve decided that now is a really good time to go green and help the environment while I’m saving money. I make my own green cleaners (thanks to the recipes on the Oprah site), I only use the energy efficient light bulbs, and I plan my own errands based on where I need to transport the kids so that I can use less gas. I’m also watching the food ads more carefully than ever before, and buying more stuff from thrift shops.

  • We have stopped going out to dinner and to breakfast every Sunday, we have also cut way back on groceries and have started using coupon religiously again. We have switched to energy saving lightbulbs, stopped using the dishwasher and cut back on the A/C, which is really tough down here in FL. We are also only using cash for purchases, we no longer use our credit cards, if we don’t have the money, WE DON’T NEED IT!!
