Join the Movement!

It’s time to stop overspending on designer brands and T.J. Maxx and Marshalls want you to join the National Spending Intervention Movement!  Both T.J. Maxx and Marshalls offer the current season’s fashions at a fraction of the cost of higher-end stores and boutiques.

Lately, I’ve also found great deals on famous brand beauty and bath products.  My latest find was Carol’s Daughter Candy Paint Lip Gloss at Marshalls.  Normally $13.50, Marshalls carries them for $3.99!  Other sought-after brands include Jaqua Beauty, Joey of New York and Barielle, just to name a few.  T.J. Maxx and Marshalls makes it possible to look, smell and feel good, all while saving those valuable dollars!

Makeup Masala wants you to join the National Spending Intervention Movement too!  To get you started, I’m giving a $25 T.J. Maxx gift card to 1 lucky reader.  Leave a comment telling us how you’ve been saving money during these rough economic times.  Winner will be chosen Saturday, May 30th at 10:00pm CST.  Readers who have a T.J. Maxx in their area are invited to participate!

I use rags instead of paper towels. You can launder the rags, but the paper towels are just landfill.

I simply do not buy anything unless its life and death. I’m wearing sock full of holes, eat the kids leftovers as my meals, etc. Its actually kind of fun to challenge myself to see just how cheap I can live.

Our income has been cut almost in half due to the economy. We don’t eat out, don’t shop unless absolutely necessary, use up what we have in the pantry and freezer creatively, close off rooms of heat and electricity not used, use coupons, have garage sales and take things to thrift stores.

  • Tammy Kennedy says:

we cut out weekly entertainment, we stay home more, eat less junk food, only buy what we need, don’t drive to pick up one item wait till we have a full list. Instead of cloths shopping out of town we stay in but have given that up unless we really need to

Like many others, I’ve cut off all unnecessary purchases, have started clipping coupons and finding them online, turned to store-brand and generic alternatives at the supermarket, eliminated some frivolous expenses such as my online movie subscription and digital cable with all the bells and whistles. I’ve also stopped shopping for clothes for the most part, so it would be a real treat to get to go back to TJ Maxx with a gift card in hand – thanks for the chance to win!

  • Denise says:

I now plan out my shopping trips, both according to how much I will spend, how I will spend (with sales), and when, thus doing a lot of shopping in one or two trips versus more. I am saving money, including on gas expenditures. Thank you!

Boy let me tell you all the things I have been doing to stretch the dollar! I have gone to the second hand stores for my kids clothes, used coupons faithfully at the grocery store, bought store brand items over name brand items, less take-out, more family time doing free things like the park, beach, etc… It all adds up especially now that my work cut me to 4 days a week! Thanks for a wonderful giveaway!

    And the winner is….INDY!!
    Indy is saving money by:
“We have always tried to be frugal by using coupons, buying store brands, doing price match to get good deals, shopping end of season clearance, eating in etc. However being humans we have had our share of weaknesses by overindulging in these sales for things that we want but not need. With a new baby and both of us unemployed due to layoffs and looking for work all unnecessary expenditures have been cut. Would be great to step foot in a TJMaxx or Marshalls again with free money.”

Most of you are saving money by eating at home more and less in resturants and also more of you are using coupons (always a favorite of mine). I learned a LOT of useful tips; thank you to all who commented!
